do radar detectors lose their effectiveness?

I have a radar detector ( a cobra, asp or some type of snake)
and while I know it’s not the top of the line, i wonder if it is losing it’s effectiveness. Is this possible? any way to test it?

As far as I know they don’t lose their effectiveness, most just need recharging. I was told that cops uses radar/laser scramblers or jammers to interrupt detectors signals. Don’t know if that’s true or not but I believe it because they are illegal for the general public to use. This maybe the reason you question your devices effectiveness. Locate a shop that services and repairs them, I’m sure they test them as well.
